SOFT STONE SOFA

Zimmer + Rohde | ClassiCon

In the spring of 2026, Munich-based furniture manufacturer ClassiCon is expanding its range of upholstery fabrics to include the diverse collections of international textile manufacturer Zimmer + Rohde. The new Soft Stone Sofa by designer Gabriel Tan marks the beginning of a collaboration between two companies deeply rooted in the German design landscape. Both share a commitment to achieve timeless aesthetics through the highest standards of craftsmanship and the use of premium, tactile materials.

A Foundation of Shared Values

“With its long-standing heritage, Zimmer + Rohde has consistently demonstrated a bold approach to innovation,” says ClassiCon CEO Timotheus Günak. Just like ClassiCon, the leading German textile manufacturer bridges the gap between established design tradition and innovative ventures. Both companies are making their mark on the international design world with their creations. These are characterised by the quality of timelessness and can therefore be implemented across a wide range of interior styles. Precision craftsmanship, durable materials and impeccable workmanship are top priority for both brands. These shared values are embodied in the design of the Soft Stone Sofa, which tangibly reflects their exacting standards.

Quality Meets Nonchalance

At Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, Munich-based furniture manufacturer ClassiCon will be introducing a modular sofa system for the very first time. Designed by Portugal-based Gabriel Tan, the system comprises eleven modules, formed from asymmetrically arranged cubic upholstered elements, some of which can be combined in multiple configurations. From the outset, the focus was on delivering uncompromising comfort: “Our aim was to create a system in which ClassiCon’s high design standards extend beyond the form alone. The Soft Stone Sofa therefore combines a distinctive design vocabulary with generous comfort and the merits of local production,” says ClassiCon owner Oliver Holy.

The choice of upholstery fabrics is determined not only by aesthetic criteria, but also by functional and sustainable considerations

A defining feature of the Soft Stone Sofa is the deliberate use of soft folds in the covers. This detail breaks with the strict linearity of conventional upholstery, lending the sofa a sense of Italian nonchalance. Thus, it emphasises its luxurious character while visually underlining its softness. In keeping with this aesthetic, ClassiCon has selected four fabric covers by textile manufacturer Zimmer + Rohde: “The exclusive covers transform the sculptural quality of Gabriel Tan’s design into a tactile experience,” says ClassiCon CEO Timotheus Günak.

“THROUGH TEXTURE AND COLOUR, EACH SOFA ACQUIRES ITS OWN IDENTITY. BY SELECTING PREFERRED MODULES AND FABRICS, THE SOFA CAN BE INDIVIDUALLY CONFIGURED, AND THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF IT: USERS CAN ADD THE FINISHING TOUCHES TO THE DESIGN PROCESS,” adds Gabriel Tan.

Upholstery Fabrics

The choice of upholstery fabrics is determined not only by aesthetic criteria, but also by functional and sustainable considerations: the fabric Tinto, featuring a distinctive effect yarn, evokes the appearance of a stone drying in the sun. With the bouclé fabric Pamir RE, the focus is not only on the soft feel and the fine, curly relief created by the use of recycled yarns, but also on environmental responsibility. With its linear character, the finely textured chenille Andro Plus accentuates the cubic form of the modules while its subtle sheen and two-tone effect create a sense of depth. Also available is the durable Antoni fabric, with a component of linen, which combines earthy, sandy tones with soft off-white hues. All covers are removable and interchangeable, which significantly extends the furniture’s lifespan and reinforces the principle of a circular economy.

“A piece such as the Soft Stone Sofa only truly comes to life through the choice of fabric. We share the belief that true luxury is not ostentatious, but reveals itself in the perfect symbiosis of form, craftsmanship and material. What we are creating is not simply furniture, but a sensory focal point within a space.”Jacob Sloth, CEO of Zimmer + Rohde
